Yamaha rider Dean Ferris scored a career-first MXGP victory in the MX2 class at the Belgian Grand Prix, with a superb double win. World Champion Jeffrey Herlings, who was crowned at the previous round in the Czech Republic, missed the races through injury after a crash in qualifying.

In the first race Ferris had to deal with team-mate Maxime Desprey, who he managed to get past on lap 14 of 20 before riding to victory by 2.2s ahead of Jordi Tixier. Christophe Charlier placed third with Desprey fourth and Romain Febvre fifth in a first race that had a dominant French presence inside the top five.

In the second race Ferris led from start to finish and came across the finish line 1.7s ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff, who with an 8-2 finish from the two motos claimed third spot on the overall podium, with Tixier second overall.

Herlings had a big crash on Saturday which resulted in a dislocated shoulder, ruling him out of action just six days after he had collected his second MX2 title.

“I keep my head up. My shoulder is badly damaged. Monday I will get a full check up. Not looking good for the moment. Disappointed in myself,” tweeted Herlings after his fall.

I will come back stronger guys. No worries... I am thinking about something cool already. I will come back with a bang.

The Championship now heads directly to the UK for British GP at Matterley Basin.
