Finn carries VW hopes of home win after shock Ogier exit as Neuville and Sordo keep up the pressure.
Jari-Matti Latvala heads an intense three-way fight for victory on Rally Germany heading into Saturday’s stages.
Latvala had eked out a 7.3 seconds lead over M-Sport Ford driver Thierry Neuville heading into Friday’s overnight halt with Citroen’s Sordo just 19 seconds further back.
Finn Latvala and Belgian Neuville know the importance of a win in Germany – they are currently tied for second in the World Rally Championship standings and realistically the only two drivers left able to deny Ogier this year’s title.
Frenchman Ogier will rejoin the event on Saturday after his VW mechanics repaired his broken Polo R which he crashed on the first of Friday’s stages while leading.
Former Formula One star Robert Kubica continues to lead the WRC2 category in his Citroen but only just from rising British star Elvyn Evans in his M-Sport Fiesta. They lie an astonishing eighth and ninth overall and such is their pace that they are threatening Martin Prokop and Nasser Al-Attiyah directly ahead of them in full blown WRC-spec Fiestas.
Saturday’s six stages total 153 competitive timed kilometres. Click here to listen to live commentary starting at 8.00am local time.
