SuperEnduro 2014 - Liverpool Highlights

The SuperEnduro World Championship fired into action with Taddy Blazusiak making a winning start.

With three wins from three starts it was Taddy Blazusiak that stole the show at round one of the SuperEnduro World Championship in Liverpool.
As the defending champion, Blazusiak was always tipped for success inside the Echo Arena but with a wealth of international talent lining up to challenge him nobody expected him to be as dominant as he was. Getting his night off to a perfect start, the KTM rider blitzed the Super Pole qualification to claim the first gate pick.
Opting for the inside gate, Blazusiak grabbed the all-important holeshot for Final #1. Out front – on a course that was tough and technical – he set about opening up his lead. But with David Knight in close contention he wasn’t able to escape. Forcing his way past at the end of lap one, the Manxman momentarily held the lead Blazusiak refused to give way. Back in front he distanced himself from Knight and took the first race win of the night. Unable to stay in contact with Blazusiak in the second half of the race Knight had to settle for second while Spanish privateer Dani Gibert bagged a surprising third place having started on the second row of the grid.

With the start order reversed for Final #2 it was Kyle Redmond who held an early lead over Gibert as Blazusiak, Knight and Jonny Walkertried to fight their way through. On lap three Gibert took control of the race lead but with Blazusiak hunting him down the pressure was on the Spaniard. During the penultimate lap, Gibert finally cracked as Blazusiak found a faster line through the water splash to take the lead and with it the race win. With Gibert crossing the line in second, Alfredo Gomez got past Redmond to take third.
With the chance of a perfect night on the cards, Blazusiak didn’t disappoint in Final #3. Grabbing another holeshot he quickly opened up a five-second gap over Knight and Walker. Hammering out the final few laps, the Polish rider ensured a clean sweep in Liverpool. Behind Blazusiak the focus of attention turned to Knight and Walker. Equally matched on speed, Walker just couldn’t find a way around the Manxman and had to be content with third.
With Blazusiak and Knight taking the top two steps of the podium, it was Gibert that completed the top three.
In the Junior class Manxman Jamie McCanney had a lot to be pleased about in his home race. Second in race one, he won Final #2 to secure the top step of the podium. Sweden’s Andreas Linusson was second while Giacomo Redondi placed third.
In the Women’s class, pre race favourite Laia Sanz didn’t fail to disappoint and secured the race win. Britain’s Emma Bristow and Jane Daniels finished second and third respectively.
The 2014 SuperEnduro World Championship continues with round two in Poland on December 14.
