In what was the most entertaining race of the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross season, Ken Block took full advantage of his stage rally experience driving his way to victory though the difficult Charlotte dirt.
Block led from start to finish in every heat race he drove in this weekend. "My history comes from gravel stage rally," he said after collecting his second podium in a row. "Give me more tracks that are all gravel. I absolutely love them. My team has been on point all weekend. With car set up, changes, and what I've been doing to get great starts."
Sverre Isachsen, the entertaining Norwegian, passed rookie Joni Wiman during the final for second place, but wasn't able to apply any pressure on the leader Block.
Overall championship points leader Nelson Piquet Jr. extended his lead with a perfectly executed Joker Lap, passing both Wiman and Scott Speed to earn valuable third place points.
Speed, who was penalized in the New York race last weekend, saw his bad luck continue in Charlotte. He battled tire and mechanical issues all weekend. "In a last ditch effort to change my luck, I turned to Facebook to ask the fans to pick a hair color (for his mohawk). They picked Green, and it didn't quite work. But we're looking to turn this around."
Last week's winner Tanner Foust had his moments throughout the weekend, challenging Block through the first turn of the final, but his car eventually succumbed to a flat tire finishing out of the top five.
The teams now have a month off to reset their cars and prepare for the second half of the season when they take the track August 23 in Daytona, Florida.
