Nasser Al-Attiyah has a deep understanding of the desert and that knowledge has helped to establish his reputation as the quickest man on the planet over the dunes. The Qatari’s ability to read the desert has brought him multiple triumphs at the Dakar and the FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup.

Now Nasser is heading back to the dunes with Toyota Gazoo Racing as he attempts to make history by winning a third Dakar in a third different vehicle.

Watch the video above to see Nasser explain his special relationship with the sand under his wheels. This clip is exclusive to RedBull.com until December 30.

“For many rally drivers sand dunes are a great challenge,” explains Nasser. “But for me the desert is my playground… To read sand dunes, especially the larger ones, you need to know what direction the wind is blowing from.”

Driving on sand is not easy, a rally driver needs to have a feel for the car because you can get stuck very easily. You can only avoid this if you have experience. You also need to have a very powerful car to not get stuck.
