DJ Trentino, from Chicago, advances to the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Toronto.
Last night, the top six party DJs from around the nation fiercely battled to be named the best on the decks, as more than 1,900 music fans packed the Lure nightclub in Hollywood. After a night of intense battles, the Red Bull Thre3Style judges DJ Jazzy Jeff, Z-Trip and A-Trak crowned Trentino as the Red Bull Thre3Style US Champion. The Chicago-based DJ will go on to represent the US at the Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Toronto November 4-10, 2013. Rounding out second and third place were DJ Scene and DJ PHSH, respectively.
"I’m thrilled to win and am looking forward to reppin’ the US at the World Finals in November," said Trentino. “When I perform, I try to make my set as balanced as possible and try not to lean heavily in one direction. I like to mix and match songs that are unexpected to really show my creativity. I think in the end it all came down to how inventive you can make your set to stand out from the rest of the competitors."
Competitors at Red Bull Thre3Style are judged on their technical ability and crowd reaction, and are given just 15 minutes each to prove that they're the best in the room by fusing a minimum of three genres of music into their set. Judges base their criteria on the DJs originality in song choices, confidence performing and mixing prowess.
Throughout the night, DJ Scene (Seattle), DJ PHSH (Philadelphia), Trentino (Chicago), Konflikt (Miami), Donnie Dee (Dallas) and A-Rock (Orlando) had the dance floor rockin’ and put their best foot forward in hopes of taking the crown. Each competitor brought their own style to the turntables, showcasing incredible mixes and unexpected musical fusions that made the crowd go wild, but in the end it was Trentino’s impeccable technique and unique blends of hip-hop, rock, electro, R&B and classic '80s music that wowed the judges.
