Avenged Sevenfold played Red Bull Sound Space at KROQ. You can watch it here and now.
It's Halloween, a time to bow down to Golgotha, wear Heisenberg costumes and shout boo! at passers-by. And the Red Bull Sound Space at KROQ got into the swing of things by ditching happy-clappy indie pop and welcoming in the heavy corpse-raising rock of Avenged Sevenfold for its own Fright Night.
Comprised of men with fine Halloween pseudonyms – frontman M. Shadows, guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, bassist Johnny Christ, and, err, drummer Arin Ilejay – Avenged Sevenfold arrive in intimidating form.
The five-piece got together in 1999 in Huntington Beach and have since morphed from underground alt-metal agitators into world-straddling rock behemoths capable of topping charts all over the planet. The band’s latest record, 'Hail to the King,' was released in August and conquered the charts from the US to Brazil.
“Over the years, we’ve basically taken a mannequin and put on underwear and layers and layers until this thing's wearing a fucking winter parka and can’t breathe," Zacky Vengeance told Thrash Hits recently. "All the heavy metal bands we love, from Black Sabbath to Metallica, have been able, at points in their career, to take off all the layers and strip it back down to the bare bones of what makes heavy metal heavy.”
And there you have it: naked-mannequin rock, the perfectly scary sound for Halloween.
Head over to KROQ to watch the performance live on November 1, from 8:45 p.m. PT, 11:45 p.m. The live set will be available above to watch for 24 hours following the performance.
