U2 also nominated for Best Song Academy Award.
Pharrell is one step closer to joining the exalted EGOT club after his song 'Happy,' from the movie 'Despicable Me 2,' was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
"I used to stare at the TV as a child watching your actors and favorite actresses take it home," Pharrell told The Associated Press. "That's where Jack Nicholson stands or the guy that I look up to majorly, Wes Anderson. That's where his work is considered. I cannot believe we get to go."
Pharrell, who recently performed on Holy Ship!!!, is also nominted for seven Grammy awards this year; he already owns a couple. If he wins the Oscar, he'll need Tony and Emmy awards to complete the cycle of every major entertainment award, an elite club with only 11 members.
But first he'll need to beat out some hefty Oscar competition, including Karen O's 'The Moon Song,' from the Spike Jonze movie 'Her;' U2's 'Ordinary Love,' from 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom;' 'Let It Go,' from 'Frozen;' and 'Alone Not Alone,' from 'Alone Yet Not Alone.'
The Academy Awards are March 2.
