The Texas band's second LP 'Make Out King And Other Stories Of Love' is full of stirring pop songs.
“A lot of the songs I write are inspired by television shows like ‘The X-Files,’” Tom Nguyen, bassist for the Houston band The Tontons, told us late last year. “We all watched a bunch of 'X-Files' during the last record, and I think I kind of channelled the mood into some of the songs. It’s not conscious, but it inspires the darker tones on the record.”
The Tontons return February 18 with a new album. Titled 'Make Out King And Other Stories of Love,' the upcoming release is available to stream right now down below. Considerably lighter and generally more upbeat than the band's self-titled debut, the album's 11 soulful pop songs are largely powered by vocalist Asli Omar's alluring voice and the bright tones of Adam Martinez's guitars. (Martinez's brother, Justin, plays drums.)
The Tontons are performing around Texas through February (see dates here) and will play in Austin during the music festival in March. You should go see them.
