Modern Baseball Take Us Behind Their New Video

'Your Graduation' is a fun video about a cold subject. See how it was made.
By Richard S. Chang

In Modern Baseball's latest music video, 'Your Graduation,' off the Philly band's excellent album 'You're Gonna Miss It All' (Run For Cover Records), vocalist and guitarist Brendan Lukens laments the isolation that comes from a fizzling relationship. He's expressionless throughout -- on the bleachers, lying in bed, sitting on the swings -- except in the performance scenes under an I-95 overpass, where he and the rest of the band are surrounded by fans while playing in the rain. It looks like a blast.

But was it? We now have an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip of the four-day shoot to give you the real story. Among the things Lukens had to endure for the music video were a haircut (after growing his hair out for more than a year and a half), 20 different wardrobe and set-design setups for a bedroom montage, AND A POLAR VORTEX. But even through all of that, the band seemed to be having fun (with the help of some liquid courage).

"After making our first video for 'The Weekend' with Bubba, going into our second video we were so so excited," Lukens told us. "That dude is a genius. This time around Bubba had a crazy great crew behind him, even better than on 'The Weekend.' We went into the video saying, 'Yo, this is going to be hard, but it's going to be worth it.' And in the end, it was. Standing in the rain while it was 17 degrees outside was one of the worst things I have ever experienced, but it was definitely (definitely) worth it."
