When you’ve traveled to all seven continents and skied on six of them, it’s not an easy quest to find new terrain to shred.
What about the northernmost populated township on earth?
To most of us, that seems really far, but not for Chris Davenport. Dav assembled a crew consisting of fellow skiers; Ingrid Backstrom, James Heim, Michelle Parker and long time friend and photographer Christian Pondella to venture on a full force exploration north of the Arctic Circle to the archipelago of Svalbard.
The fjords of Svalbard are best accessed by boat, however shortly after departing from port in the 67' foot Arctica II, the crew is hit with a massive storm swell.
No one ever said exploration is easy.
After working their way through the storm, the crew quickly reaped the benefits of the risk, skiing one of the most beautiful places on earth.
But as most explorers would tell you, the trip is only as good as the photos you take home with you.
Lucky for us, Pondella was kind enough to share a few of his favorites from Svalbard.
