What exactly does the biggest surf event of the year mean to the guys and girls putting on the show?
Considered the biggest surf event in the world, the US Open of Surfing is often referred to as the sport's Super Bowl. With stadium seating, and crowds during the week that total in the millions, the atmosphere around the event certainly fits the billing. Wave conditions can be a challenge in the summer, with south or westerly winds popping up late morning or early afternoon. High tide also tends to suck most of the energy out of any swell in the water. But, if the right conditions come together, south side Huntington Beach Pier can definitely live up to the hype.
