Whether it's big waves or posting longboarding photos to Insta, Sterls is afraid of nothing.
Every good man has great secrets. Well, maybe not secrets, but things that he wouldn't openly admit. For some, this means writing romantic poetry to a lover. To others, it could be some far-out sexual deviance. Or, to most common men, it is riding a longboard.
Longboards are akin to democracy — a noble, perfectly logical idea that has been mutated into something hideous and unrecognizable. You should be able to enjoy a good session on an LB without even a tinge of shame, but this is simply not the case. Beginners ride longboards. Geriatric men ride longboards. Kooks ride longboards. They now come with both a single fin and a stigma. Hence, longboard sessions have become secretive to most men.
But Jamie Sterling is not like most men. The guy will hook into a wave bigger than your house. You really think he's afraid of getting made fun of? Neither did we. So when Sterls posted a longboard photo to Instagram, we weren't the least bit surprised. Jamie Sterling occasionally rides a longboard and he ain't afraid to show it. And maybe that's a good thing. Maybe.
