In the first episode of the season, we follow two goofyfooters from the Central Coast of New South Wales, who both operate on completely different programmes.
Ace Buchan is the experienced competitor. Last year he saw the biggest win of his career (in Tahiti) but he's now carrying a nagging injury into the new season. In a bid to be as close to 100 percent as possible for the first world tour event of the year, Ace opted out of the Australian Open of Surfing. This gave him time to put his efforts towards his charity work, and mentally prepare for the year ahead.
Matt Wilkinson is the most unique personality on the world tour, someone who trainer Andy King says the tour needs. His colourful lifestyle has given Wilko a perhaps less-committed approach to competition than most of his competitors in the past, but after nearly missing out on requalification last year, he's realised that some changes need to be made in 2014.
