OUR NAME IS A REFERENCE TO AN AUSTRIAN TV SHOW
The band is named after a club in Vienna. It was featured in an episode of 'Inspector Rex'. The club’s sign had a silhouette of a woman with a skull and crossbones underneath. We liked the way the German spelling of 'temple' (tempel) looked so we went with it. Was a bad idea.
THREE TRUMPS TWO
We actually recorded a full length LP as a two-piece. It had its moments. We did a cover of 'Human Being' by The Coloured Balls, which was cool. After a couple of attempts to mix it, we decided to enlist Matt Chow on bass and do it all again.

MY VAN CONTRIBUTED TO THE ALBUM
The engine sample in 'Constable' is from my old Mitsubishi van. I loved that thing. It had done over 400,000 km, had a hole in the floor on the driver’s side and the steering wheel had no rubber on it, so was a steel hoop. It was the sweetest sounding little truck, so I recorded it before putting it on Gumtree. I sold it to some dude who shipped it to Lebanon for his Grandma. Live forever.
LOUD LIKE AN AIRPLANE
Steve [Carter] and Stew [Rayner] play in a band called Shepparton Airplane with Matt Chow who played bass on our debut album. They are the loudest band in the world at the moment. Thankfully, they are also very good. I never say anything nice to their faces, but I like them.
WE KEEP IT IN THE FAM
Steve and I are distant relatives, we are both related to Dame Nellie Melba. Steve has a very nice baritone, and a great voice for radio. I think one day he will have a radio show. He is also naturally polite and everybody likes him when they meet him.
The Peep Tempel are playing at Lansdowne Hotel this Friday, 30 June alongside Sloan Peterson and Mezko for Red Bull Sound Select curated by I OH YOU.
