Francisco ‘Chaleco’ López made his name in the late 1980s by finishing first in the Latin American Motocross, setting him on a path to racing success. During the early ’90s, Chaleco competed in the 125cc category of the Chilean National Motocross Championship, where he consistently finished in the top three. This winning form was mirrored later, when he graduated to the 250cc class, which he won five times.

A glittering five years followed in which he cemented his reputation as one of the most talented riders in the business by finishing first in the 450cc category of Patagonia-Atacama Rally.
