What to expect at Red Bull Race The Sun?
- Event: Red Bull Race The Sun. The hardest team running race in Australia!
- Date: June 26th - June 27th.
- Time: 24 hours. Sunrise to sunrise.
- Distance: 345km / 7000m+ of elevation.
- Location: Surfers Paradise, Queensland > Tenterfield, New South Wales.
- Format: Teams of six will have 24-hours to run 345km in a relay style sunrise to sunrise across a fixed course with checkpoints. There are no breaks.
- Who can register: Endurance runners, run clubs, gym teams. Anyone who thinks they've got what it takes! Register interest here.
It’s you, your crew, and the ultimate race against time. When the sun peeks over the horizon, you take off relay-style on a 345km journey through mountains, trails, road, and everything in between.
The challenge? Get to the finish line before the sun makes its grand return. This isn’t just about speed; it’s about endurance, grit, durability and teamwork.
You’ll battle brutal climbs, navigate tricky trails, and fight off exhaustion as the night wears on. Sleep? Forget about it. This is a race for runners who thrive on the edge, pushing limits with every stride.

How it works?
- Team composition: 6 runners (min 2 female) + 2 drivers. This is the minimum required. Additional support crew welcome.
- Course: Brutal 345km of terrain ie road, mountains, dirt trails along with steep uphill and downhill elements. Up to 7000m+ of elevation.
- Pace: Average minimum pace of 4:10min/km required to beat the sun.
- Conditions: Sun, wind, cold (temps down to negative 1-4 C), rain, mist, fog, day and night time running.
- Strategy: Teams decide how they want to attack the race!
- Difficulty: Hard / Extremely Hard

For the 2025 edition, only five of eleven teams beat the sun. It was Team Aotearoa that jumped across the ditch from NZ and beat the sun by a little over an hour (4:49am).
