Get ready for Red Bull Crashed Ice 2014
The details of Red Bull Crashed Ice 2014 have been revealed, with the new season set to be more exciting than ever. The 14th annual Ice Cross World Championship will see athletes competing against each other at speeds in excess of 60kph on varied tracks, each packed full of bumps, jumps, twists and hairpin turns. Check out the preview video above for a taste of the upcoming action.
The first race will take place on February 1, 2014 at the Serena Ski Resort, near Helsinki, Finland. The 270-metre track here is a permanent one, a sign of the growing popularity of Ice Cross Downhill. From here, Crashed Ice moves on to Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA on February 22. On March 8 the event returns to Moscow, Russia for the first time since 2011, before the final race in Québec City, Canada on March 22.
Last year's event was the biggest and most popular ever, with over 300,000 spectators watching the action live. It also saw a move away from the domination of ice hockey athletes, with competitors from the worlds of downhill skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking making a huge impact.
A series of regional qualifiers will be held before the main events to find new, up-and-coming talent to compete against the experienced Crashed Ice athletes. Current stars such as Marco Dallago and 2013 champion Derek Wedge have previously qualified in this way. Check out redbullcrashedice.com for more information.
