PUBG Mobile is joining the Red Bull M.E.O. Season 3 roster of titles, bringing fast-paced FPS battle royale action to the competition for the first time. As one of the biggest mobile titles in the world, with millions of players jumping out of the plane every day, there will no doubt be tough competition in the Red Bull M.E.O. Season Three tournaments and you will want to get every advantage you can before competing.
Even the slightest advantage over your opponents in PUBG Mobile can be the difference between a chicken dinner or a big loss, be that a slightly better weapon loadout, a marginally better position to hold or even just some circle RNG luck. Unfortunately, we can’t help you with those things, but what we can help with is your game knowledge.
That is why we reached out to two of the most knowledgeable PUBG mobile names in the world: Daniel ‘Gbay’ Heinauer, a former pro player for Method, and Maximillian 'Maxman30' Barraud, one of the most recognisable broadcasts talents in PUBG Mobile, to give you some top tips to improve both your play in-game and your chances of making it to the top of the PUBG Mobile scene.
First off, if you could give one tip to players on how to improve their PUBG Mobile play what would it be?
Daniel ‘Gbay’ Heinauer: "If I could give one tip on how to improve your gameplay, it would be to practice more! Practice makes perfect. I would also advise watching pro players as I've learned a ton of new things by doing that. You notice things like how they move when they're in fights and how they handle certain situations."
Maximillian 'Maxman30' Barraud: "As a caster, the issue I see that comes up very often during tournaments is the lack of synergy between all the members of a team. Firstly, you would want to designate a shot-caller, which is the only player in the team who will call rotations, when to take fights, etc. This role is, in my opinion, the most important, as it can make the difference between winning and losing a game. It can also help to keep the team’s head cool in case of an internal issue. Working together and communicating is key, if you can overcome this part of the competitive side of PUBG Mobile, I think I can say you’ve done the hardest part!"
PUBG Mobile constantly gets new content and season 13 brought a lot of changes and additions to the game. Now pros have had a chance to get used to it, how do you think the season changed the pro scene and what is it like having to deal with constant changes to the game?
Daniel ‘Gbay’ Heinauer: "I think the scene is always changing, but there’s definitely a lot bigger changes in Season 13. I don't think it changed the pro scene all that much as we are used to and have been dealing with change since the very start."
Maximillian 'Maxman30' Barraud: "Out of all the changes, two really stood out to me for this new season. The first would be for Miramar (other than the map changes) with the addition of a scope attached to the WIN94. This will allow for some earlier fights taken on a mid to long-range, making Miramar even more dangerous if you decide to go for long rotations right after dropping out of the plane.
"In my opinion, the biggest change for this patch is the addition of the Canted Sight! There's no need to switch scopes in your inventory anymore, now, at the click of the button, you can take long to short distance fights with your AR, making fights even more fast-paced and interesting to watch in a competitive setting."
No game is ever perfect, especially for the pro players, so what improvements and changes would you like to see in Season 14?
Daniel ‘Gbay’ Heinauer: "I really like what PUBG Mobile has done as they have made a lot of improvements throughout the lifespan of the game. One thing that I know a lot of people have strong feelings about is the glitches. Somehow, there always seems to be new glitches popping up every season. When one glitch is fixed, another one pops up. So I think if they could really focus on fixing glitches, that would be a huge step in the right direction."
Maximillian 'Maxman30' Barraud: "Well as of right now, I believe the game plays incredibly well, so in terms of adding new features to the core game, I can't really think of anything that makes much sense. But, as a caster, one thing I would just love to see added would be skins based around the top eSports teams in the world. Imagine being able to support them by wearing an awesome skin with their core branding attached to it. Of course, that would also mean a portion of the revenue of those skins would go directly to the teams in question, so this would be an extra way to support your favourite players in this time of need while also getting awesome loot along the way!"
Finally, if someone is looking to get into top-level competitive play and really have a good shot at winning Red Bull M.E.O., what advice would you give them?
Daniel ‘Gbay’ Heinauer: "Always make sure you're recording and posting videos of your gameplay. That allows people to see how good you are and really could potentially open up opportunities for you. Maybe if a team is one person short for scrims and they saw your clips and say 'hey, let's hit up this person, they look really good'.
"Another important thing would be to network, message people, always let people know you're available if they ever need one for scrims. I have a funny story about this one. Before I went ‘pro’, I actually used to wait for the top players to log on and see them matching 4/4. I would then start my timer to look for a match. Most of the time I would get into their game and drop where I knew they dropped. I would try my best to kill them and all of their team-mates. I succeeded once in doing that. I killed a few of them a good bit of the time, while some of the time I got killed without killing any of them. I never gave up though, I relentlessly went back, no matter what the outcome was."
Maximillian 'Maxman30' Barraud: "Really, to kick start your competitive career into action, you must watch the tournaments yourself. See what teams do, how they react to specific scenarios. Of course, even the best teams don't have the perfect answer, so don't take all the information they give as the truth, also work on your side to find your path to success. And if you fail every once in a while, that's okay, failure is just part of the journey to becoming the best player you can ever become."
