Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series is just about as epic as fantasy gets this side of Middle-earth. While the latest instalment, The Elder Scrolls Online, is set to turn free-to-play very soon, fans still can’t seem to put down its predecessor, 2011’s smash hit, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They may have finished all the quests, found all the loot and maxed out their characters, but they’re still exploring the wilds of northern Tamriel in search of adventure – and pulling off some insane stunts along the way.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane, and revisit the vast world of the fifth game in the series, played Red Bull style. We’re talking giant baseballs, cliff diving with armoured horses, dragons and of course, explosive chickens – and not an arrow to the knee to be seen.
Don’t try this on your horse
Normally you’d need the Dragonborn DLC to fly around the world of Skyrim without having to resort to cheats or mods – that is unless you’d just prefer to take to the skies on your steed instead. That’s right. As you’ll see in the video above, springing your trusty mare on top of one of Skyrim’s legendary winged reptiles causes a glitch which will let you canter off into the blue. The only thing that will stop you in fact is when you hit another cliff on the other side of the map. Enjoy the view.
Leave the cliff diving to the professionals
Skyrim’s towering cliffs and waterfalls make for some epic jumps that wouldn’t look out of place as a stop in our Cliff Diving World Series, but as it turns out, you’re better off leaving it to the pros. Tap play to see how things can go just a bit wrong if you’re trying to be a Skyrim cliff diver – you might not even reach the bottom.
Get airborne with explosive chickens
Blink and you’ll miss it. Yep, look away for just one split second and you’ll miss a mage causing a whole bunch of chickens to detonate, sending lexichu01 soaring high into the sky. You’ll need the Explosive Chicken mod (Yes, someone took the time to make this) and a PC copy of the game to pull this off, but it’s a lot of fun. As an extra challenge, try and blow up a dragon with a brood of nearby chickens.
What happens when you hit a giant with a pogo hammer?
Pogo sticks aren’t a thing in Tamriel, but pogo hammers certainly are. Naturally. As YouTube gamer Etalyx found out after installing the Homestuck Weapons mod, the very self-explanatory pogo hammer makes lets you launch your enemies far away into the distance accompanied by comedy sound effects, and while it won’t work on dragons and chunky mammoths, it works especially well against great, lumbering giants. We reckon one of these mighty hammers should be packed into every adventurer’s backpack.
Sink a three pointer with a cabbage
Skyrim was not built to be a basketball sim, but trust the Achievement Hunter guys to find a way to play their own mini ball games anyway. Whether it’s going 10-pin bowling with a cabbage or nailing amazing trick shots into a bucket with greens, these guys have got you covered. And you thought Bethesda just included them as health boosts.
