Márquez looked on course to mark his success the previous week with a sixth win of the year, as he led by some advantage, but a front-end crash ended his race prematurely and resulted in his first DNF of the year. It left Crutchlow in charge, and the Brit rode an excellent race to manage the gap to those chasing him.

Crutchlow becomes first Brit to win on Australian soil

Ride of the weekend...

It's a toss up between Rossi, who went from 15th to second, and Viñales fighting his way up from 13th on the grid to finish third.

14 world titles on the Phillip Island grid

With Nicky Hayden coming in to fill spot of the injured Dani Pedrosa at Repsol Honda in Phillip Island, it meant there were a total of 14 MotoGP titles amongst four riders on the starting grid.
That's the highest number ever to start a race in the premier class.
