Jakub 'Kuba' Hroneš is a native of Špindlerův Mlýn, a ski resort town in the Czech Republic's Krkonoše National Park. He was born into winter sports; standing on a snowboard for the first time when he was just two years old. His dad was behind the Czech-language snow publication, Free Magazine, and organised many jams and sessions, so snow was a natural environment for young Kuba.
At first it seemed that skiing would appeal to him much more, and from the age of six to until he was 13, he devoted himself to alpine skiing. At first, snowboarding was just a weekend pursuit, but that all changed at the MČR in Vítkovice, where Kuba took second place in his category on snowboard. That was the moment when he realised that there was much more potential and so many more podiums waiting for him on the board. He now has a wealth of competitive experience behind him and is constantly advancing. His biggest early achievement was Slopestyle gold at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Finland. He also has a world first to his name, landing the first triple-flip trick off a rail - the Switch Boardslide Switch Triple Underflip 1170 - at home in Špindlerův Mlýn.
