You can learn a lot about a skateboarder by looking at their sponsors. Getting the stamp of approval from brands like Habitat, Nike SB, Spitfire, Volcom, Thunder and Bones is no easy feat, but these brands all see what we see in young New York City native Jiro Platt.
A cartoon-inspired career
Jiro’s journey began aged six, when, inspired by a Disney cartoon, he convinced his dad to take him to the nearest skatepark. That park just so happened to be LES Coleman Skatepark, a known proving ground for New York's top up-and-coming skaters.
Through years of dedication in the park and the streets, along with guidance from pros like Mark Suciu and industry legends like 5BORO NYC founder Steve Rodriguez, Jiro has grown into one of New York City's top-rising street skaters with a deep bag of tricks.
Competitions wins
Despite his young age, Jiro has a Damn AM win under his belt, along with impressive finishes at top contests like Cowtown's Phoenix AM and the Copenhagen Open.
He also triumphed at KASSO FEST Skate & Sound, a unique contest where skaters attempt to tackle an obstacle course with speed and precision. You can see how Jiro took the title in the video below.
These days, Jiro is focusing on contests and filming for his next video part. This won’t be the last time you hear his name.
