The former springboard diver and 23-time Swiss national champion admits that she first started diving at the age of 10 “just to impress the boys”. After a decade of success from the springboard, she was inspired to set her sights higher after watching a video about the history of cliff diving in her country.
Following her first appearance at the World Aquatics High Diving World Championships in Fukuoka in 2023, she went on to score a creditable 11th-place finish in the 2024 edition in Doha – a result which earned her an invite to the World Series event in Boston that summer.
After placing 11th once again in the USA stop, Herculano then overcame the rough Northern Ireland coast during her next showing to leap into seventh spot, before rounding out her debut season with a 10th-place finish in Montreal.
The 25-year-old Harvard graduate, who has a degree in Economics and a secondary in Energy and Environment – admits that she sucks at endurance sports: “Any effort over 10 seconds and I’m out!”
Thankfully for Herculano, cliff diving involves just three seconds of acrobatic freefall, and she’ll be back this summer to showcase her skills from the 21m platform.
