Sofia Goggia started skiing in Foppolo in her native Italy at the age of three and, despite some serious injuries, hasn't looked back since. Today she's a powerful multidisciplinary skier who's the first and only woman to win Olympic gold for Italy in the women's descent.
Goggia made her FIS World Cup debut back in 2011 and has amassed numerous podium finishes across the Downhill, SuperG, Giant and Combined categories in which she competes.
In the 2016/2017 season she won the bronze medal at the World Championships in St Moritz and finished on the World Cup podium 13 times, beating Deborah Compagnoni's Italian record of 11 in a single season. Among those 13 podiums were two outright victories won in Jeongseon in the  Downhill and Super-G races. To these she added six second places and five third places, finishing the season with 1197 World Cup points and third place overall.
After a 2017 full of great results, even better was to follow for Goggia in 2018, when she took Downhill gold for Italy at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, becoming the first Italian woman to win the event.
