The UEFA Champions League plays a big part in FIFA 19. Europe’s premier club competition is included in everything from Ultimate Team to The Journey, complete with unique presentation elements and a brand-new set of commentators.
It’s also a major addition in Career Mode this year, serving as one of the ultimate prizes on offer. With that in mind, we’ve collated a few of the mode’s most important tips to help you capture that famous Champions League trophy.

1. Sign players with high potential

It goes without saying that in order to achieve long-term success, you’ll need quality players with excellent potential. Set your youth scouts to work in searching for future stars, and you’ll reap the rewards in seasons to come.
If you want to skip the process, take a peek at our list of the best young players in Career Mode with the highest potential. Grab a couple of these for your squad, and even if you don’t win the Champions League in year one, it won't be long before you do.

2. Rotate your team regularly

If you’re going to be competing in the Champions League, you’ll be playing a lot of games over the course of the season. That means you need to think carefully about how often you utilise your top players, or they might become susceptible to tiredness or injury.
The best way to prepare for this is via team sheets, which allow you to set various line-ups and tactics to suit different needs. If you’re facing a lowly opponent in the FA Cup, consider starting some of your reserves or youth players to give your stars a break.

3. Look for affordable release clauses

One of the best new additions to Career Mode is the ability to search for players with release clauses. If you can match a player's release clause when attempting to buy them, their club will be forced to accept the deal no matter what.
Your best bet is to shop around for cheap release clause bargains, which can be found via the player search screen. Just keep in mind that other teams can do this to you, too, so you’ll want to be careful when assigning release clauses for your own players.

4. Master Timed Finishing

The difference between winning and losing in the Champions League often comes down to the smallest of margins. It's important to take your chances where you can, and that’s where FIFA 19’s new Timed Finishing mechanic comes in incredibly handy.
Using our Timed Finishing guide, start getting to grips with this feature as quickly as you can. The more you use it, the more consistent you’ll become, eventually being able to pull off long-distance worldies with regularity.

5. Take advantage of game plans

There’s no tougher club competition in Career Mode than the Champions League, and that means you’ll have to face plenty of challenging scenarios. The best way to deal with this is via the new Dynamic Tactics features in FIFA 19.
With game plans, you can customise your team’s tactics for each in-game mentality. If you ship an early goal and switch to the ‘attacking’ mentality, for example, you can pre-set a new formation and/or specific instructions that will help your team get back on track.

6. Don’t forget to train your players

As always, you can train up to five players per week in Career Mode, and you can either take the reins yourself, or simulate the sessions entirely. It’s obviously important to do this, particularly when trying to mould promising youth players into future stars.
There are more ways to improve your players in FIFA 19, too. Certain training drills have an influence on attributes relating to pace and strength abilities this year, allowing you to turn a no-hoper into a commanding superstar under the right circumstances.

7. Take on the ‘Ultimate’ challenge

This one won’t exactly help you to win the Champions League, but it’s certainly the most epic way to do so! Brand-new to FIFA 19’s Career Mode is the ability to set the difficulty level to ‘Ultimate’ - the hardest level in the game.
Ultimate difficulty featured in Ultimate Team last time around, but now it's available for use in FIFA’s popular offline mode. Lifting the Champions League trophy will prove a nightmarish task, but if you’re successful, you’ll be celebrating for a long time to come!
