If you’re aiming for long-term success in FIFA 20’s Career Mode, you’ll need to sign some promising wonderkids. Your first priority will be identifying players with high potential as these will likely develop into the game’s best talents in seasons to come.
Since the game’s release in September of 2019, we’ve gotten a good handle on the players with the highest potential in FIFA 20. Drop some cash on any of these wonderkids and you’ll soon be winning plenty of Career Mode trophies.
1. Kylian Mbappé - Paris Saint-Germain
- FIFA 20 overall: 89
- FIFA 20 potential: 95
It is possible to train Paris Saint-Germain and France star Kylian Mbappé to incredible levels in Career Mode last year. He can even surpass Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of his overall rating in FIFA 20. The 21-year-old, who managed to score 30 goals in 33 appearances before the 2019-20 season was suspended, is the top youngster in the game. Though, you’ll need some serious powers of persuasion to snag Mbappé, of course, as the Ligue 1 giants are likely to place a big price tag on him.
2. Matthijs de Ligt - Juventus/Piemonte Calcio
- FIFA 20 overall: 85
- FIFA 20 potential: 93
The story of the summer at Juventus was the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt, with the 20-year-old defender joining in an over $117 million CAD deal. His FIFA 20 overall rating was given a boost following his noteworthy performances in the UEFA Champions League last season, as well as winning the Eredivisie with Ajax. Because he just signed, you will have to wait a year before you can purchase the Dutchman but if you can somehow snag him in Career Mode, you might well have access to the best centre-back in the world before long.
3. João Felix - Atlético Madrid
- FIFA 20 overall: 80
- FIFA 20 potential: 93
New Atlético Madrid forward João Felix signed a seven-year deal in July of last year, becoming the club’s most expensive signing in the process. There’s a lot of pressure riding on the Portuguese youngster’s shoulders. In FIFA 19, his overall rating had the potential to reach the high 80s but he will far exceed that in FIFA 20. Felix has made a great start to life in Madrid and after a season, you can try to sign him yourself.
4. Leroy Sané - Manchester City
- FIFA 20 overall: 86
- FIFA 20 potential: 92
There is no doubting the talent of Leroy Sané but with the sheer-quality of Manchester City's squad, he has failed to secure a starting spot. While league postponement left Bayern Munich unable to test the match fitness of the German winger, who was out for 7 months with an injury, the Bundesliga champs' loss could be your gain. Sane is already incredible in FIFA 20 with his blistering pace, just think how terrifying he'll be after a few years of improvements.
5. Gianluigi Donnarumma - Milan
- FIFA 20 overall: 85
- FIFA 20 potential: 92
Gianluigi Donnarumma has been described as a wonderkid for years now and the 21-year-old continues to impress between the pipes. Donnarumma is equipped with stunning potential in FIFA 20, with the AC Milan and Italy goalkeeper able to reach an overall rating in the 90s. You’ll struggle to steal him away from the Serie A side, but you’ll never need another goalie if you manage it.
6. Kai Havertz - Leverkusen
- FIFA 20 overall: 84
- FIFA 20 potential: 92
Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz was always going to be rated highly in FIFA 20 following his phenomenal 2018-19 season in the Bundesliga. The 20-year-old scored seventeen goals throughout the league campaign and was named runner up for the German Footballer of the Year award as a result. His potential in FIFA 20 allows him to reach the low 90s and with dynamic potential, he could go even higher.
7. Jadon Sancho - Borussia Dortmund
- FIFA 20 overall: 84
- FIFA 20 potential: 92
Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho has adopted some impressive stats in FIFA 20, including a potential overall rating of around 92. That won't be surprising to anyone considering his outstanding 2018-19 season. Sancho contributed 13 goals across 43 games in all competitions for the German side, earning him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season as well as six international appearances representing England.
8. Vinícius Junior - Real Madrid
- FIFA 20 overall: 79
- FIFA 20 potential: 92
FIFA 20 puts a bigger focus on “dynamic” one-on-one gameplay situations, and Vinicius Junior should prove highly effective at these down the wing. The 19-year-old Brazilian is known for his stunning pace and fantastic dribbling skills, which ultimately saw him evolve into one of the world’s best wingers in FIFA 19’s Career Mode.
9. Frenkie de Jong - Barcelona
- FIFA 20 overall: 85
- FIFA 20 potential: 91
Dutch superstar Frenkie de Jong was a revelation for Ajax last season, leading to his Summer move to Barcelona. The midfield maestro will command the game once he reaches his 91 potential and considering the 22-year-old is already an 85 overall in FIFA 20, it won't take him long.
10. Ousmane Dembélé - Barcelona
- FIFA 20 overall: 84
- FIFA 20 potential: 90
Finishing off this list is another Barcelona player in Ousmane Dembélé who beat Manchester City's Phil Foden to the top 10 though the Englishman is the only other player in the game with potential in the 90s. French winger Dembélé will be incredible after a season or two with his five-star skills and weak-foot.
