Arriving for their first day of action, the teams could hardly wait to start playing and soaking up the Rome sun only seemed to drive their motivation higher. Before the first tip-off even went airborne, each team assembled on the iconic Scalo San Lorenzo court for a portrait, firing them up even more.

Then the start of gameplay unleashed their energy for furious face-offs that had the spectators jumping to their feet. As day turned to evening, the lights came on, the music turned up and the teams left it all on the court in their final opportunities to advance.
Men’s Group 2 featured traditionally strong basketball nations, like Spain and Russia, while Group 1 was packed with powerful teams such as Italy, Serbia, Turkey, and Germany. Among all of the men’s and women’s teams, only the Spanish men managed to emerge with a perfect record.
