Riding the Tatshenshini
Rafting 260km with bikes in tow, Darren Berrecloth and fellow MTB riders explore Canada's Tatshenshi River.
In the summer of 2016, four generations of mountain bikers head north for the trip of a lifetime. The trip saw them raft the Tatshenshini River through British Columbia, the Yukon and into Alaska in search of some of the most remote and rugged big mountain biking on the planet.
Though Wade Simmons, Darren Berrecloth, Tyler McCaul and Carson Storch are each of a different era in mountain biking's history, the four came together with over 60 years of combined experience between them and each attacked the terrain with their own unique style.
Though biking was the priority, the nature of the trip also demanded preparedness off the bike in navigating the remote terrain both safely and respectfully.
The Tatshenshini is relentless. The Tatshenshini has claimed lives.
To ensure minimum impact on this beautiful yet unforgiving landscape, the riders travelled methodically using the Leave No Trace principles, meaning among other things that all waste – including human – was packed out.
