Picture this: a sea of partygoers, the pulse of bass-heavy beats, and a DJ booth where the playlist is in your hands. That was the scene at UWI Carnival’s ‘D’ Aftermas’ on March 15, when Red Bull Selector made its explosive Jamaican debut, bringing an interactive music showdown like nothing the island had seen before.
Forget your standard DJ set—this was a full-blown musical experience where the crowd called the shots. Using red and blue voting tools, revelers decided the night’s vibe, throwing down choices like Soca vs. Dancehall and Old School vs. New School. Every vote forced the DJs to lock in, switching up their setlist to keep the energy unpredictable and electric.
First up was Trinidadian Soca powerhouse Travis World, known for igniting any party with his signature high-energy sound. Holding it down for Jamaica was Chromatic Sound’s very own Creep Chromatic and JR Chromatic, who seamlessly blended Dancehall classics with fresh, chart-topping bangers. And just when the hype couldn’t get any crazier, special guest Ayetian stormed the stage, surprising the crowd with a live performance featuring his hit track ‘Balance’—a moment that sent the energy through the roof. Keeping the vibes on point all night was the ultimate hype master, Brush1 ‘The Road Marshal’, who had the crowd in the palm of his hand.
The energy was unreal! From the first vote to the last song, the crowd was locked in the whole way,” said Travis World. “As a DJ, you always have to read the crowd, but with Red Bull Selector, it was next level. Every decision had to be on the spot—it was intense, but that’s what made it so epic.
Jamaica has always been about interactive music—whether in a Dancehall session or a Soca fete—but Red Bull Selector flipped the script completely. The crowd was in control, and that made it a totally different experience.
This wasn’t just another party; it was a glimpse into the future of live music—where audiences aren’t just spectators, they’re part of the performance. Red Bull Selector took Jamaica’s deep-rooted tradition of interactive music and cranked it up to new heights, proving that when it comes to pushing the culture forward, the Caribbean stays ahead of the curve.
With its first Jamaican edition now in the books, one thing’s for sure—Red Bull Selector isn’t just a game-changer; it’s a movement. And if this debut was any indication, the best is yet to come.
