See.Hear.Now. with James Hersey
The Austrian musician show us why he's tipped for the top with an interview and exclusive performances of his tracks Miss You and Coming Over.
Berlin-based Austrian-American singer-songwriter James Hersey is about as unassuming as they come. And yet this rising star's 2014 song Coming Over has had 129m streams – and counting – since Austrian producer Filous gave it a dancefloor filling makeover. Kygo and Dillon Francis have also worked their magic on the track. And last year, Hersey's official debut single, Miss You, caught the ear of the one and only Annie Mac, which helped propel the track to Number One in the Hype Machine charts.
Hersey's guitar-based love songs – some of which have less than happy endings – are rooted in indie-rock and Americana melancholy but lend themselves brilliantly to being transformed into killer dancefloor anthems. Here, though, the Glassnote-signed artist performs his music the way he intended, delivering two tracks from an EP he co-produced with Ed Sheeran collaborator Will Hicks. Title track Pages, Hersey tells us, is about saying goodbye to a crumbling relationship, while Tomorrow is nostalgic for long nights round at friends’ houses, hanging out and doing what friends do.
In the video above James Hersey performs his tracks Pages and Tomorrow and explains how his upbringing in Vienna and his wide-ranging musical background inspires his own songs.
