Ten years since its original release, Burnout Paradise has been totally remastered. With all DLC included from the original, the open world racing game now boasts incredible detail and has rekindled what made the original game such a classic.
Here are some tips to help you earn the coveted Criterion Elite Licence.

1. Use a familiar car

Using a car that you are comfortable with is a great way of getting used to the several high-speed sections of Paradise City. Having a good understanding of how the car handles in a high-speed situation could well be the difference between missing a car by the narrowest of margins or having an incredible accident which could ruin your race.

2. Learn to drift

Learning the fastest way to navigate corners is really important in all of the events Paradise City has to offer. Instead of using the handbrake to turn quickly, tap the brake at the entrance to a corner, keep the pedal to the metal and use plenty of boost to maximise your speed around the corner. Be careful though: losing control of the car when drifting usually leads to a crash, which isn’t ideal when you're battling for the lead!

3. Boost!

As mentioned earlier, having a full boost meter is important if you want to dominate the competition. Depending on which category of car you have chosen, make sure that the boost meter is always full to the brim in case you have an accident and need to floor it to catch up. Having a lot of boost makes overtaking a breeze in races and is a great utility to have in the Marked Man events, where the objective is to avoid being hit from other racers who are doing everything to take you down.

4. Learn shortcuts

Shortcuts are often the difference between a victory and a second place so getting to grips with the best shortcuts is a great way to outwit your opponents. Taking a shortcut will also help you stay off the roads and avoid any form of collision with any other cars. Familiarising yourself with a handful of shortcuts is a good plan if you want to score consistent victories around Paradise City.

5. Use your map

With no GPS on Burnout, it’s important to keep an eye on your whereabouts when speeding around Paradise City. A good way of keeping tabs on where you are is by looking at the road signs which appear in the middle of the screen when you start driving on a different road. This can be a handy trick to keep you ahead. Every now and again, check your map in the bottom right of the screen to plan your route to the finish line.
