In Days Gone, you’ll spend plenty of time in camps to help you get back into shape, whether that involves upgrading your bike, buying supplies, or cashing in items for credits and trust. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but these camps hold plenty of additional help when you’re travelling alone.
Building your trust within camps allows you to unlock better weapons and upgrades for your bike, and each campsite offers something different. We’ve got some tips to help you know how to get the most out of these camps to aid you in your journey against the Freakers.

1. Gaining trust is key

The main currency in Days Gone is trust. No matter how many credits you acquire, you’re not going to be able to spend them in camps unless they trust you, and the more time you spend within a camp’s region on the map, the more they’ll have reason to trust you. Their favour can be earned in a variety of ways, so bear in mind that having the support of certain camps is much more beneficial that you think.

2. But not all camps are worth investing In

Although you’ll encounter camps early on, it’s not always worth spending your time investing in every one. Whilst all camps give you the opportunity to refuel and repair your bike, restock your ammo, and allow you to cash in various items, some don’t offer you the same quality of weapons and upgrades, or even the opportunity to upgrade. Once you’ve rode into one, spend a bit of time checking out what it has to offer. You won’t be able to unlock some of the better equipment as its locked behind trust levels, so browse before you buy.

3. Use camps to rest

Let’s be honest, going out in the daytime is much safer than when the sun goes down and you’re surrounded by darkness. Every camp offers you the chance to get your head down, so if you’d rather go out during the day, head to the location in the camp that lets you go to sleep. These are highlighted by the ‘ZZZ’ icon.

4. Clear out infestations

Whilst fast travel is available in Days Gone, you’ll seldom be able to use it unless you clear out the various infestations on certain roads and in specific areas, such as petrol stations and convenience stores. They’ll be highlighted on the map in red, and once you’ve arrived, there are around four or five areas that require you to throw molotovs at them to burn them down. You don’t need to kill every Freaker that runs out of them to clear out Infestation Zones either, so try to conserve bullets where you can. It’s also worth noting that the best time to do this in in the daytime, as there will be less Freakers to kill, making it much easier to wipe out the infestations.

5. Every Freaker ear helps

Throughout your time in the field, you’ll end up killing a fair amount of Freakers, and by collecting their ears from their corpses, you’ll be able to cash them in at the various camps within the game. Depending on the type of Freaker you kill, certain ears give you better rewards, so it’s worth collecting as many as you can. Heading to the Bounties area in the camp is where you’ll be able to cash these in, and whilst you don’t earn loads of credits or gain a ton of trust, it’s a nice way to chip away at those trust levels.

6. Spend time hunting wildlife

Every camp needs to find a way to feed its civilians, and Deacon can help a lot with that. There’s a variety of wildlife running around out there, and by hunting it you can sell its meat at the kitchens within each camp. It’s also important to collect plant life because this too can be sold back at camp for a few credits and a bit of trust. Much like Freaker ears, it doesn’t offer a huge reward, but every little helps.

7. It’s good to talk

Whether you’re chilling out at Iron Mike’s Camp or taking a leisurely stroll inside Wizard’s Island, it’s worth seeking out NPCs who may have quests for you to undertake, often denoted with ‘Jobs Available’ above their head. Every mission you take on from the various NPCs will offer you a better amount of trust than handing in Freaker ears or food, so keeping an eye out for them is well worth your time.

8. Side missions equal trust for specific regions

When you’re riding around in the wilderness, there are plenty of quests that involve wiping out Marauder Camps, clearing out NERO checkpoints, and more. If you want to improve your trust level at a specific camp, completing missions within that region will build up your trust with that camp, so focusing on the side missions close to your camp of choice is well worth doing.

9. Help other survivors

Quite often within Days Gone, you’ll encounter various survivors that need rescuing from a handful of Freakers or Marauders, normally trapped in a locked car or inside a small building. Once you’ve eliminated the threat, the survivor will thank you for saving them, and you’ll also be given the opportunity to send them to one of the camps you’ve unlocked. This is a great way for you to earn trust for a specific camp, so choose wisely when you send them on their way.

10. Destroying Hordes Offer Big Rewards

One of the most nerve-wracking moments in Days Gone is when you encounter a Horde. Although they’re daunting at first, you’ll eventually garner the tools needed to take them out. You’ll not be able to take out Hordes the first time you bump into them, and whilst you may not be able to destroy them all, you can still manipulate them by leading the Freaker pack into a Marauder camp, letting them do all the hard work for you.
Killing Hordes, however, offers decent levels of trust, so once you feel like you have a healthy arsenal at your disposal, take the opportunity to wipe them out. They’re often found in caves or larger buildings, and occasionally there’ll be missions specific to destroying a Horde.
