Defending world champion Liam 'ThunderStruck' McCarron has won the UK final of the Red Bull M.E.O, securing a spot to head to Madrid in 2020 to defend his title on the world stage.

The highly anticipated UK Final for Red Bull M.E.O. descended on the Red Bull Gaming Sphere on December 1, where the best players from the region competed in Clash Royale and Hearthstone to be crowned the UK champion and receive a spot at the prestigious world final in February 2020.

After a full day of intense competition, Liam ‘ThunderStruck’ McCarron was crowned the winner in Clash Royale and Oliver ‘Paradox’ Barnett took home the trophy for Hearthstone.

The riveting Red Bull M.E.O. Season 2 UK Final saw the current world champion, Scottish esports prodigy Liam ‘ThunderStruck’ McCarron lose in qualifiers to Saint Belikin before managing to navigate the losers bracket to bring about a rematch in the Final. Taking the first match with a reverse sweep from 2-0 down was a big turning point and ThunderStruck went on to take the decider 3-1 in what was an intense, grinding battle.

“I know a few of my friends have qualified for the Final so there’s some good players going to be there, but having knocked out Belikin in the UK qualifiers is a huge boost as he’s one of the strongest players right now. I’m going into the Final pretty confident of defending the title, can’t wait!” Said Liam ‘ThunderStruck’ McCarron.

ThunderStruck and Paradox will now represent their country in an all-expenses-paid trip to the Season 2 Red Bull M.E.O World Final in February 2020.
