F1 2018 featured the most complete and in-depth career mode in the franchise's history. Building on the successes of last year, F1 2019 takes Career Mode to new heights thanks to small adjustments and additions that completely immerse players in their Formula One career.
Before you take your first steps to becoming a top driver, make sure you check out these F1 2019 Career Mode tips – they'll help you get the most out of another fantastic racing experience.

1. Take part in all sessions – even practice

Although the practice sessions are rather mundane, they are crucial when it comes to developing your car as you earn all-important resource points in order to improve areas of the vehicle.
If you’ve decided to start towards the back of the grid, the resource points earned in practice sessions will help to get your car towards the midfield battle. Starting in the midfield? Practice sessions are still important to try and close the gap between Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

2. Attend invitational events where your rival is present.

Taking on your rival at invitational events is a good way to increase reputation with your team and build your rivalry score while getting the opportunity to drive some classic cars from years gone by.
Ranging from that Niki Lauda's 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 all the way to the championship winning Red Bull RB6, there are numerous cars to get behind the wheel of when completing a wide variety of unique challenges.

3. Interviews can make a lasting impression

Like in F1 2018, your responses in interviews can have a big impact on your reputation with your team and certain development departments. Be aware that your answers can also influence your ability to negotiate a better contract when the time comes so it’s important to choose wisely.
Some teams prefer the more flamboyant style which could benefit you when looking for a new team while some teams prefer a sportsmanlike approach. It’s always best to impress your current team so bear that in mind when answering!

4. Contract negotiations

Throughout the course of a season, you get the opportunity to obtain a better deal than your current contract. Choose your race and qualifying targets, status within the team and how difficult the team objective is to achieve. Select between four perks that can offer big advantages that can affect development speeds and the amount of resource points that you can earn per race.
You only get three chances to negotiate a new contract. After three chances you’ll be stuck on your current deal or you can gamble on looking for another seat on the grid.
So, when negotiating a contract, go for top driver status within the team along with an increase in upgrade speed to get ahead in the development race.

5. Win your rivalries

Outperforming your teammate in qualifying and the race is the best way to improve your status in any team on the grid. After winning your first rivalry against your teammate, you’ll be given the choice on who to select as your rival from another team. Beating them can yield a big increase in reputation, making it easier to get noticed by teams higher up the field.
Be careful which driver you select. Failure to beat your selected rival can lead to a huge loss in reputation so if you’re at the back, the last person to choose is Max Verstappen!

6. Optimise the car

Tuning the setup ahead of the race is an essential part of the weekend. To get the maximum levels of performance, it’s important to understand the characteristics of the track you’re racing on. Monaco requires a good chassis rather than a lot of power so take time to modify the aerodynamics and suspension in the setup menus.
Keep track of the wear of engine components, too. Parts with high wear are more likely to fail so it’s important to rotate parts depending on which track you’re competing on. For more power dependant tracks like Spa and Monza, use fresh or less worn components and use the older parts for tracks that rely less on power.
