8 goalscorers who need a ratings boost in FIFA 19
The strikers and wingers that deserve an Ultimate Team upgrade later this year.
FIFA fans and footballers eagerly anticipate the release of FIFA Ratings each year. Will Ronaldo and Messi still be the best players for FIFA 19? Does Gareth Bale still deserve his spot in the top 10? Which- in-form players deserve to break into the top 50?
Inevitably, form fluctuates during the season, and although regular adjustments and winter upgrades are implemented to ensure the game remains up-to-date, some players arguably don't get the ratings boosts they deserve.
When FIFA 19 is released, a whole bunch of players' stats will be changed in accordance with their real-world form. We've picked out a selection of attackers who have performed particularly well in the 17/18 season, and are most deserving of a ratings increase.
1. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world right now – he's been outstanding in his first year with Liverpool, but the Champions League finalist began the season with a mere 83 rating in FIFA 18. That, quickly improved, rising to 85 in the winter and boosting all the way up to 98 via a huge array of in-form Ultimate Team items. With over 40 goals in all competitions this season, Salah looks set for a big upgrade in FIFA 19.
2. Bafétimbi Gomis (Galatasaray)
Ex-Swansea striker Gomis has had a huge impact since joining Galatasaray in the summer, scoring over 30 goals for the Turkish club in all competitions this season. His form hasn't been represented in his FIFA stats, however – the French talent began the season with a 79 rating in Ultimate Team, and didn't benefit from a winter upgrade. That said, Gomis was rewarded with an 82-rated TOTW item in March, and should enjoy an improved rating later this year.
3. Ciro Immobile (Lazio)
Italian striker Immobile has been in incredible form since joining Serie A side Lazio in 2016. He's scored over 20 goals in both seasons at the club, and in 17/18 alone, has netted over 40 goals in all competitions. As a result, his 82-rated item in FUT 18 was quickly increased to 85 in the winter, and he also gained an 88 MOTM card in February for his efforts. The current top scorer in Serie A will surely get a ratings boost in FIFA 19.
4. Harry Kane (Tottenham)
It's no surprise that Harry Kane has enjoyed another fantastic season with Tottenham this year. It is surprising, however, that he began the year with a mere 86 rating in FIFA 18. That quickly shot up to 88 in the winter followed by a mass of temporary increases (including a 96 TOTY item), but we expect to see a higher base rating for the Spurs star in FIFA 19. That should certainly prove the case if he scores a few for England at the World Cup!
5. Jonas (Benfica)
Brazilian striker Jonas suffered an injury-ridden season in 16/17, and still finished with 13 goals in 19 games for Benfica in the Liga NOS. The prolific striker has torn the league apart this year, scoring over 30 goals and averaging more than a goal per game. His form was rewarded with an increase from 83 to 84 in the winter, as well as two in-form upgrades, but we think he deserves a permanent ratings boost in FIFA 19.
6. Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)
Another of Serie A's top talents can be found in Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi, who has improved on his impressive 16/17 record with just under 30 goals in Serie A this season. Despite this, the Argentine striker began FIFA 18 with a rating of just 84, boosting to 86 in the winter and rising as high as 89 via Path to Glory and TOTW upgrades in Ultimate Team. At the very least, we'd like to see Icardi receive an 86 base rating next season.
7. Raheem Sterling (Man City)
Pep Guardiola has really brought out the best of English youngster Raheem Sterling – the 23-year-old has enjoyed a great year with Man City this season, scoring over 20 goals in all competitions. Sterling's initial 82 Ultimate Team rating blossomed to an 84 in the winter, and reached as high as 93 as he was named in the FUT Premier League Team of the Season. Expect a significant upgrade for Sterling later this year.
8. Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo)
Since leaving Liverpool in 2015, the career of Spanish striker Iago Aspas has exploded. His first year back in La Liga saw him score 14 goals, followed by 19 the next year, and 20 so far this season. His form in 17/18 was represented with a +1 increase to his FUT 18 rating in the winter, bringing it up to 84. He's also received a selection of in-form upgrades – including a 93-rated TOTS item – making him a prime candidate for an upgrade in FIFA 19.
