Some of the biggest football teams in the world have pro FIFA players in their squad. In the last few years, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham, and many more teams have signed top FIFA players to represent their clubs. 19 of these clubs came together at the weekend to compete at the first ever FIFA Interactive Club World Cup Final at Sky Sports Studios in London – and it was a player representing one of the smaller clubs who won the tournament.
The Danish Superliga team IF Brøndby were recently knocked out of the Europa League at the qualifying stage, but their fans can celebrate success away from the real football pitch as their FIFA player, Marcus 'Expectsporting' Jørgensen won the first FIFA Interactive Club World Cup.
Having made it through the group stage, the Danish player – who signed for Brøndby in February 2017 – beat Paris Saint-Germain's Agge 7-1 on aggregate to reach the PS4 Divisional Final. He then defeated New York City's Chris Holly to reach the Grand Final and secure one of two spots at this month's FIFA Interactive World Cup Final.
The other spot went to Lyon's Rafsou, who beat Schalke's Tim Latka in the Xbox Divisional Final. The winners of the PS4 and the Xbox divisions then went head to head in the Grand Final of the first ever FIFA Interactive Club World Cup. The prize: $10,000.
So, it was Brøndby Vs Lyon in the final, and it looked as though the French team would be the first FICWC champions as Rafsou led Expectsporting at half-time in the second leg. However, Marcus mounted an amazing comeback to win 8-5 on aggregate.
So Brøndby have won the first ever FIFA Interactive Club World Cup. Expectsporting and Rafsou will compete in the FIFA Interactive World Cup Final in London on 15-18 August, where they will compete with the best FUT players in the world – including Hashtag Utd's Tass, Unilad's Gorilla, and VFL Wolfsburg's Timo Siep – who have qualified through the FUT Champions Regional Finals.
While Brøndy's Expectsporting won the tournament, players representing Manchester City (Kieran 'Kez' Brown) and West Ham (Jamie ‘JAMBOO’ Ridgen) were knocked out in the group stage.
