After retiring from professional motorsport at the end of last year, Mark Webber’s clearly been looking for new challenges to fill his time.
But rather than joining his local lawn bowls club or developing his sudoku skills, it appears the former Red Bull Racing F1 driver has been sharking for a job on The Grand Tour, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May’s Amazon Prime show.
Mark recently turned up at The Grand Tour’s Wiltshire-based proving ground to audition for the role of the show’s test driver for its second season, which launches on December 8 2017. And while he performed well behind the wheel of Porsche’s new 991 GT2 RS, his brand allegiance to the German marque – who he raced for for three seasons in the World Endurance Championship – may have cost him his shot at the job…
