Most of The Heist DLC is an extension of what everybody loved about the Spider-Man PS4 game. You’ll get to flex your spider-muscles in plenty of ways, stop crimes across New York, and play through a story that follows the anti-hero Black Cat as she attempts to take on the crime families that have risen up in the wake of the Sinister Six’s downfall.
While there is plenty of familiarity here, there are also some new sections that require different approaches, be it in combat or the minor villain Screwball’s challenges. So, without further ado, here are some tips to help you conquer The Heist and enjoy everything it has to offer.
1. How to stop the guy with the Gatling gun
While many of the thugs in The Heist have all been seen before, there’s a new type that will cause you a lot of problems if not handled correctly. He’s a heavyset fellow with a humongous Gatling gun, and when he opens fire you'd better not be in his line of sight.
Even if you manage to dodge his initial punches, the moment he starts firing his weapon, your best bet is to get off the ground. You can dodge him, but if that wall of bullets meets your path, he’ll still manage to shoot you and do a significant amount of damage. Ideally, get in the air and fire your webbing at him so that he stops firing – it’ll take more webbing than usual, but it’s one of the only ways to stun them.
Even if you use something to throw at them, it likely won’t stop them either, so make sure it’s a rocket or trip mine that someone’s thrown.
2. Get help from Black Cat
In one of the story missions, Black Cat will tag along and help you to stealthily take out a shipping yard. What’s great about this is that you’re not solely responsible for having to take down everyone on your own. You can use Black Cat to take enemies out for you, but knowing when to use her is key.
Listen to her, as she’ll offer ways to dispose of small pockets of thugs. Like in the base game, press R3 to check if it’s safe to use a takedown, and always aim to tie enemies up as opposed to striking them. Shoot webbing at a nearby object to separate the thugs, then tag one for Black Cat and leave one for yourself.
3. How to use the Spider-Bot
There are plenty of crimes to solve in The Heist, but many follow similar patterns to the ones that you’re used to. There is a new type of crime on offer, and it requires the use of your Spider-Bot. A handful of bombs have been armed, and you must control the Spider-Bot to find them.
They’re not particularly hard to find, but they can still be tricky if you’re not looking in the right places. Always focus on the indicator in the top-left of your screen instead of listening out for the bomb. The indicator shows you the exact direction you need to head in, so instead of looking at the environment to find a blinking red light, pay sole attention on the indicator and move in the direction it states. It’s much more efficient and will guarantee you’ll disarm them before they blow up New York.
4. Screwball’s Challenges: Master the EMPs
Where The Taskmaster failed, Screwball takes over to offer you opportunities to earn some Challenge Tokens. The EMP challenges replace the often-frustrating drone ones that were bestowed on you by The Taskmaster, and whilst straightforward, you must destroy them in order – press R3 after destroying everyone so you know where to go next.
There’s a new Photobomb mechanic that’ll give you a short window to snap a photo at particular locations whilst blowing up EMPs, and making sure you hit R1 at the longest possible point on the meter will give you extra points.
5. Screwball’s Challenges: Take out the gangs to earn Challenge Tokens
There’s nothing more satisfying than taking out heaps of thugs as smoothly as possible, and in these Screwball Challenges, you’re offered a chance to earn extra points whilst doing so. At random times, Screwball will light up an area in neon pink, and taking out as many enemies in this area when it’s highlighted will give you the opportunity for another Photobomb. Like with the EMPs, hitting R1 as the gauge reaches its maximum gives you plenty of OMG points, which will help contribute to how many Challenge Tokens you end up earning.
6. How to find the stolen art
In The Heist, you don’t have to collect any backpacks or take photos of NY landmarks, but you will need to find stolen artwork located across the city. There are only 10 pieces to find, but they don’t always pop up on the map.
To find out where the next one is, keep completing Screwball’s Challenges in between, or do any of the Crime missions to show their locations. It isn’t really made clear why they aren’t all visible, so don’t worry when you can’t see them. Do other Side Quests or Challenges and they’ll soon start to appear on the map. Alternatively, hit R3 whilst exploring to show any close by.
7. New story, new suits
There are three new suits to unlock in The Heist, and all three are simple to acquire. While they all look great, they have no special powers attached to them. Regardless, those completionists out there will want to own them.
The Resilient Suit is an original design by famous Marvel illustrator Gabriele Dell’Otto, and can be owned once you complete the first Story mission, known as The Maria.
The Spider-UK Suit was first worn by Billy Braddock in the Spider-Verse” storyline from the comics, and you can unlock it once the entire story-arc has been completed in the DLC.
Finally, Kaine Parker’s Scarlet Spider II suit will be unlocked once you finish all story missions, side quests, and city activities.
