Conventional motorsport wisdom states that it’s best to end a race driving in a forwards direction across the finish line. Audi Blancpain racer Nicolaj Møller Madsen clearly isn’t a fan of conventional wisdom, though.
At the 2016 Misano round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, Madsen was blasting into the final corner of the Qualifying Race alongside the number 22 Nissan GT-R of Ricardo Sanchez and Sean Walkinshaw when the two cars had a coming together.
While the Nissan rolled meekly backwards after the contact, Madsen floored his Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS towards the finish line, intent on not falling down the order following his little spat. What the Danish racer didn’t count on, however, was the wet grass that he’d have to drive across to get back on track.
With the Audi’s slicks providing next to no grip on the green stuff, Madsen found himself pirouetting seven times, crossing the finish line in 19th place. So that’s nil points for the result, and 10 for the flourish, then...
