Anyone with even a passing interest in UK garage is well familiar with the DJ/MC duo Oxide & Neutrino, who were spawned from the legendary So Solid Crew. With their 2001 debut album Execute going platinum and launching massive hits like the Bound 4 Da Reload and No Good For Me, Oxide & Neutrino were one of the key acts to drive their style of UKG from the underground to the mainstream, enduring all the press hysteria that came with it.
Following a hiatus from 2007-2011, Oxide & Neutrino have enjoyed busy touring schedules as elder statesmen of UKG. Check out a new mix from the duo – recorded exclusively for Red Bull Music UK – featuring tracks from the likes of DJ Q, Holy Goof, Bassboy, Preditah, Redlight, Notion, Scott Garcia and My Nu Leng alongside a Q&A below.
What’s the vibe and direction of the mix?
The vibe of the mix is some of the darker stuff we play in our sets. There's some great new music out there and we like to stay fresh and push new music along with some old skool classics, which we have done in this mix.
You guys are an in-demand touring act. How does it feel to have so much support after all these years?
The support and demand we have at the moment is very humbling. We’ve always stayed busy in the clubs over the years and watching things progress and seeing the younger generations embrace the sound we represent has been wicked!
If you could resurrect one closed-down UK club or clubnight, what would it be?
Club Colosseum in Vauxhall has to be one of the main clubs we wish was still open, some of our best music was premiered there years back and it had a vibe like no other.
What's the best and worst thing about being in the music industry in 2018?
Best thing about being in the music industry in 2018 is the internet and being able to connect with the fans and other artists and promote your music instantly, also the amount of festivals that are around these days. Worst thing, the internet! And the speed at which popular music is discarded. Also a shame people don’t get to buy physical copies of music that much now.
Other than garage artists, are there any other UK musicians that you guys are listening to these days?
CASisDEAD, Avelino, Krept and Konan, Wiley.
Are there any new generation UKG artists who you think are killing it right now?
There are lots of artists out there doing great things for the scene, to name a few: Preditah, TQD, Redlight, Bassboy, My Nu Leng, the list goes on...
