We all love watching the world's best mountain bike riders perform on the planet's most challenging off-road terrain at Red Bull Rampage.
We're the exact opposite of soccer players, man," said Geoff Gulevich. "We don't fake injury — we fake that we're OK
But crashes are inevitable and the ways things can go wrong at Rampage are myriad. Falling off cliffs, canyons and jumps — you know, the usual dangers of riding your bike on, and off, a totally raw mountain.
In anticipation of the 10th edition of Rampage on October 17, let's take a look at the craziest crashes in the video below.
Ask any pro and they'll tell you that tumbles are arguably necessary as athletes try new moves over unchartered terrain to produce the jaw-dropping stunts we've seen in the first nine competitions at Rampage.
The good news is, mountain bikers are hard as nails.
"We're the exact opposite of soccer players, man," said Geoff Gulevich of the riders' need to mitigate physical pain in order to compete on mountain biking's highest stage. "We don't fake injury — we fake that we're OK."
As we prepare for the 10th edition of Rampage, let's hope these crashes are the last we'll see ... but, don't hold your breath.
