Red Bull Cut It, a new, unique lawn mower racing format, will roar into the sleepy farming town of Cheddar in Somerset this summer for an event that promises to mow you away… Ahem.
As well as being one of the most accessible forms of motorsport out there, lawn mower racing is about as British a sport as you can get, having been devised over a couple of pints at the The Cricketers Arms in Wisborough Green, West Sussex back in 1973.
But don't go thinking it's not serious. When the racing lawn mowers hit the three different Red Bull Cut It tracks on June 8, they'll be hitting speeds of up to 50mph as they hurtle over twists, turns, rollers and jumps.
And in an exciting twist on the traditional lawn mower racing format, Red Bull Cut It will feature three separate events:
- Time trial – This will determine where competitors will place on the grid
- Drag race – A timed 100m flat sprint
- Joker lap race – Each rider is allowed to use a shortcut once in the race
