Excel Esports have announced their second signing of the offseason this week and it’s none other than Spylce’s former support Tore ‘Tore’ Hoel Eilertsen.
At just 19 years of age, the 2019 Worlds quarter-finalist has already impressed on both domestic and international stages which means he’ll be an invaluable asset for Excel who only managed bottom-placed finishes in the LEC.
Despite ending his season on a high with Splyce, Tore admits his move away from the LEC side, who have now rebranded as Mad Lions, was inevitable.
He told us: “It’s a bit sad that the team is not going to stay as it is after Worlds. Even though we performed well, the synergy of the team or how we worked wasn’t always the best. There was some people that maybe didn’t work too well with each other – you can’t really force stuff to happen just because you had a good showing at one tournament.
“It was better for me if I got a fresh start because Splyce were kind of disbanding, everyone was leaving and I felt better to give myself a fresh start.
“Honestly, I felt that the Excel project was going to be more exciting than the Splyce one.”

Reuniting with Caedrel

Tore will also be reunited with his former Schalke 04 teammate, Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont, which was one of the reasons that contributed to his decision to join Excel.
He told us “I was really excited to join because I get to play with Caedrel again. I played with him back in 2017 when he was a mid laner.
“He improves really fast and back when I played with him I liked his work ethic and personality, I never had any trouble with him and he’s a friend of mine so yes, it’s probably a good reason as to why I decided to come to Excel.
“I’ve got faith in him as well as the rest of our teammates.”

“I’m not going to settle for being mediocre”

Excel haven’t quite found their footing in the LEC yet, with the year predominantly plagued with poor results despite some outstanding individual performances.
However, Tore believes he has what it takes to help his teammates to LEC glory.
He told us: “It’s going to be a different team with the new roster. It doesn’t make a difference to me that Excel didn’t perform last split because whatever I put into it, I will be a deciding factor whether a team is going to be good or bad, it’s kind of in my hands.
“Personally, I’m not going to settle for being mediocre or a bottom-tier team – I’m still going to try my hardest to reach the top spot again.”
