With 31 starts in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Smart is one of the most experienced female athletes currently competing.
The Missouri-born diver first earned a permanent ticket on the tour following a breakthrough season in 2018, when she earned third place at the World Aquatics World Cup. In 2019, her upward rise continued as she landed on the podium for the first time in Mostar – finishing runner-up at that stop to Rhiannan Iffland.
In 2022, Smart enjoyed her best season to date, securing two podium places and an overall third position in the World Series. The following year, a third place in Mostar was the highlight of a season which culminated in a fourth-place finish overall.
Despite two top-five finishes last season, the 29-year-old struggled to find form and consistency, ultimately ending the year in 10th place overall and dropping back down to wildcard status for 2025.
An ambitious personality with high goals, Smart would want to be Oprah Winfrey for a day: “She’s such an amazing woman and philanthropist. I love all the work she is doing around the globe and hope that one day I can make such an impact! It would be awesome to be in her shoes for a day!”

Describing herself as impatient, Smart won’t want to waste any time this year as she aims to rediscover her best form and reclaim her permanent status when she returns to action.
