We decided that we'd waited too long to give Greg Callaghan a Sound of Speed episode, and when legendary Irish filmmaker John Lawlor proposed to do so while enlisting the help of a racing drone, it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss.
We caught up with the Enduro World Series star at his training camp in Finale Ligure, Italy, where he's preparing for the upcoming season, to talk more about the shoot.

How was it filming your SoS edit. Did you enjoy it?
Yeah, I did. It was great fun. It was so fun to work with John Lawlor, because he's so great at what he does. He's so efficient, you’re never waiting for him – as soon as I was ready to ride my bike he was ready with the camera.
Do you think it helps when the filmer you're shooting with is a good bike rider in their own right?
Definitely. John's still a more than handy bike rider, and having ridden a bike, he knows the way you're going to move on a trail, and what kind of body positions you're going to be in. When you work with someone with that experience, you know that it's going to be a 'first shot' kind of thing.
Where did you film, and had you ridden there before?
It was in Tollymore, Northern Ireland. It's somewhere where I did quite a bit of training last winter, because it's halfway between my house and fellow EWS rider Kelan Grant's house. I love it, I think it's some of the best riding in Ireland.
You used a racing drone as well on the shoot. What was that like?
It was really cool, just this tiny piece of carbon fibre with a camera attached to it. It was mad to be riding and hearing that buzzing behind me. Whenever the pilot makes the drone change direction, the propellors make a really sharp buzzing sound, and at times it was really close, making moves around me, but I'd no idea where it is. It was definitely a strange, but pretty cool feeling.
Did you get hit by it at all?
Nearly! We had a few really close calls, and a couple of times I just heard it clattering off trees behind me.
Is sound something that you're aware of or use as a racer?
I'm not sure if I use it so much, but certainly a lot of riders like a quiet bike. I love riding in the wet, and when you have a quiet bike you just get that nice sound of the tyres on the ground. When the bike sounds smooth it sort of makes you feel like you're riding smoothly, and that's a great feeling.
