It seems like this year, more than any other in recent memory, super subs are crucial for gaining success in FIFA Ultimate Team. That extra boost of stamina can work wonders against competitive opponents in the likes of Division Rivals and FUT Champions, and often proves the difference between winning and losing.
We’ve put together a list of players that work particularly well as super subs, and can be acquired for a relatively low fee. Additionally, we've highlighted their most suitable FUT 19 items in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness.
1. Adama Traoré (RW, Wolves)
Sub Item: Gold (75)
You’ll want Wolves winger Traoré in your squad for one reason – his pace. The Spaniard packs a massive 97 acceleration and 96 sprint speed by default, and this can be increased further with Chemistry Style items. The rest of his stats aren’t particularly flattering, but use him late in games, and he’ll tear through defences with his speed. The best bit? He’s available on the FUT transfer market for less than 1k coins.
2. Davinson Sánchez (CB, Spurs)
Sub Item: Gold (84)
While it’s not particularly common for players to swap out defenders mid-match, stamina issues sometimes make this a necessity. The 84-rated Davinson Sánchez is a fantastic super sub in these instances, boasting near-premium defensive stats for a low price. Be sure to stick an Anchor Chemistry Style on him to make the most of his abilities, such as a 95 standing tackle. The Spurs CB’s pace stats are highly impressive too.
3. Zlatan Ibrahimović (ST, LA Galaxy)
Sub Item: Flashback SBC (92)
If you regularly play Division Rivals or FUT Champions, you’re probably sick of seeing this super Swede. Zlatan’s immense Flashback SBC served up one of the best striker items in the game, and it goes without saying that it’s a great super sub as well. Don’t overlook his standard 85-rated item, however, as Ibra’s strength and heading accuracy can be boosted to incredibly high levels, making him a deadly threat in the air.
4. Hirving Lozano (RW, PSV)
Sub Item: TOTW (85)
You’re looking at around 40k to get your hands on the 85-rated version of Hirving Lozano, which might seem slightly high, but he’s worth every penny. The PSV winger is packed with pace, boasting 96 acceleration and 95 sprint speed. He’s also a very agile dribbler, with a 96 agility stat proving the highlight of his attacking abilities. Lozano’s chemistry links aren't particularly great, but you'll still get plenty out of him regardless.
5. Troy Deeney (Watford)
Sub Item: Ultimate Scream (78)
We’ll be honest – Troy Deeney isn’t really worth utilising in any form other than his Ultimate Scream variant. That item, however, recently received a huge boost to both its pace and dribbling stats, with both being maxed out at 99. That automatically makes him a lethal super sub in FUT 19, particularly when combined with his 91 strength and 86 shot power. Be sure to get in quick though, as Deeney’s market price (45k) is steadily rising.
6. Marcus Rashford (ST / LW, Man Utd)
Sub Item: Gold (82)
There's a vast array of Rashford items on the FUT 19 transfer market, but his cost-effective Gold variant remains particularly enticing. There are two types on offer – the Winter Refresh (ST) or the original (LW), and both seem to perform more effectively than their overall ratings suggest. Rashford is super speedy and surprisingly clinical for an 82-rated striker, making him the perfect threat to unleash on defenders in the dying minutes.
7. Anderson Talisca (CAM / RM, Guangzhou Evergrande)
Sub Item: Carniball (88)
It’s almost absurd to think that Anderson Talisca’s highest-rated FUT 19 item was given away as part of a weekly objective. The 88-rated Carniball variant is dominant in a CAM role, offering very few weaknesses. However, if you missed out on that version, the 86 (RM) or 84-rated (CAM) Team of the Week items are also highly effective, and cost around 30-40k coins to acquire. Be sure to make use of the Brazilian’s superb long shots ability.
8. Geoffrey Kondogbia (CM, Valencia)
Sub Item: Gold (82)
We recently highlighted Geoffrey Kondogbia as one of FUT 19’s top midfield bargains, and he's a perfect fit for this list as well. The Valencia CM serves as an all-around threat in the centre of the pitch, benefiting primarily from his impressive defensive and physical stats. Kondogbia makes use of his 91 strength to prove a commanding presence as a super sub, allowing him to shrug off opposing threats and retain possession with ease.
9. James Forrest (RM, Celtic)
The best version of Celtic right midfielder James Forrest is undoubtedly his 86-rated Team of the Week item. Not only does it have an impressive 97 acceleration and 94 sprint speed, but it also boasts a ridiculous 99 agility and balance. You can use Forrest to burst down the wings or cut inside due to his high-rated stats in both crossing and finishing, and he’ll only cost you around 35-40k to get ahold of on the transfer market.
