This year has seen some hilarious gaming videos published online. Some of these have been created by established YouTubers, while others were uploaded simply by players who happened across something interesting in a game and decided to share it with an audience.
We’ve trawled through countless videos from the past year in order to bring you the funniest of the lot. Below you’ll find a selection of  amusing glitches, bizarre mod showcases, and clever parodies that are guaranteed to raise a smile.

1. Clumsy guards in Dishonored 2

You might think getting through Dishonored 2 without killing anyone is an easy task. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case -- especially when the guards are this clumsy. The best part of the video is the guard who just can’t seem to get down a bunch of stairs without faceplanting over and over. No wonder it's such a struggle to get a perfect non-lethal run on The Good Doctor mission.

2. Super Mario Odyssey in GTA IV

This video features strong language
Back before Super Mario Odyssey was released, we didn’t really know what to expect from it. All we had to go on was a few trailers, some of which introduced us to New Donk City and the bizarre visual of Mario walking among more realistically proportioned humans. It was these promotional videos that inspired YouTuber Crowbcat to spoof the game by inserting a Mario model into GTA IV.

3. Perfect timing in Fallout 4

This next video is an example of perfect timing. Just as Paladin Danse is giving a speech to the main character about the Brotherhood being under heavy fire, someone unloads a nuke on the city in the background. What really makes the clip is Paladin Danse saying, “We could use an extra gun on our side” with a straight face. They might need to dream a little bigger.

4. Cupsouls

When Cuphead first came out, critics bombarded it with comparisons to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls because of its fiendish difficulty level. 64Bits Animation takes this comparison and runs with it, applying Cuphead’s art style to characters from the Dark Souls series. We particularly like the Fleischer-like Ornstein and Smough, and the Monty Python-esque foot of Yhorm the Giant stomping on the Ashen One.

5. Kermit goes Super Saiyan

You’ll never look at Kermit the Frog the same way after watching this. In the clip, we see what happens when you add Kermit to Dragonball Xenoverse 2. The answer is, comedy gold.

6. Lost at sea in Cities Skylines

Ah, a beautiful city scene. Absolutely nothing wrong here. Just cars and people commuting in and out of the centre. Keep watching though and you’ll soon see why this clip has earned a spot in this top 10. A boat smashes through the middle of the traffic. The framing and timing in this video are superb.

7. SethEverman Video Game Music 2

This video is actually a sequel to a video from last year: Music Genre: Video Game. Here, Seth Everman revisits the idea, beautifully satirising popular trends in video game music. He earns bonus points not only for his jab about water levels, but for his pop at completely unnecessary racing mini games.

8. Shovel Souls

There have been loads of great mods for Dark Souls, but this next video demonstrates one of my favourites. In this mod showcase, we see both Shovel Knight and Shield Knight taking on the asylum demon and the hordes of undead. Not only is this funny to watch, but it’s also surprising in just how well it fits. We also love that they took the time to add the appropriate sound effects and music to the video.

9. Bottle Flip in VR

VR has been hyped as one of the most exciting new technologies. Its applications are incredible. NASA uses it to acclimatise astronauts to conditions in space and some teachers have adopted it to teach classes to students. That’s not what this video is about however. Here we see one player using VR for its true purpose, bottle flipping in Job Simulator.
The best part of this video is the jubilant hand motion after they finally manage to flip the bottle properly.

10. Death by toilet

Now presenting the most embarrassing death in a video game ever, and that’s counting the guard deaths we mentioned above. In this clip from the latest Hitman, Agent 47 takes out two guys with a surprising weapon: a porcelain toilet. It’s slapstick gold.
