With the release of FIFA 20 just weeks away, Ultimate Team fans will be eagerly awaiting the launch of the updated Web App on September 18.
Everyone wants to get their hands on the best players as soon as possible, even with prices sky-high in the first few weeks. Fear not, as there are plenty of ways for you to accumulate coins without having to get your wallet out.
Here are six tips on how you can get a healthy coin balance in Ultimate Team without buying any FIFA Points.
1. Don’t forget coin boosts from the EAS FC catalogue
This is the easiest step you can take to make sure you squeeze every last coin out of your Ultimate Team matches.
Coin boosts are available in the catalogue (which can be summoned by clicking in your right thumbstick) and you can spend all the credits you’ve racked up across all FIFA titles to purchase these handy little bonuses as soon as you fire up the game.
Make sure to buy all the coin boosts your level and credit balance can get you, as they will stack up and automatically activate the next boost once your current one expires. They can offer you anywhere from an additional 200 to 1000 coins per match; you'd be surprised at what a difference that can make.
2. Play as much Division Rivals and Squad Battles as you can
Once you’ve got your coin boosts up and running, make sure you’re getting some matches under your belt. Even if you haven’t got a particularly strong side yet, just play some matches to get your additional match coins from the boosts and don’t worry too much about your record.
The best modes to play are Division Rivals and Squad Battles as you earn extra rewards, such as coins, packs or both, at the end of each week depending on how many skill points you’ve earned in that particular mode.
FIFA 20 will also see a new tweak to Squad Battles that has removed the timer for refreshing the squads you can face. You can now play 40 games every seven days which will all count towards your rewards at the end of the week.
3. Complete SBCs for packs
Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) are a great way to earn packs so that you can try and pull a valuable player.
At the start of every FIFA there will be sets of SBC puzzles to complete, with some in the Advanced category offering up really tasty packs. Also, look out for league-based SBCs and the weekly Marquee Matchups which can potentially offer decent packs as rewards.
Ensure that you keep all the players you pull from packs and don’t quick sell them, as even the most obscure or unusable players may be useful in completing one of these challenges down the line.
Also, be cautious about referring to popular online guides offering SBC solutions, as the players featured in those guides will likely have their prices hiked up on the market as everyone is trying to get them.
Try and solve it your own way, using the existing players in your club and, if you have to buy players to complete it, try to avoid those suggested online.
4. Monitor SBC requirements and sell suitable players on the market
Not only do SBCs give you a method of acquiring packs, they also present an opportunity to do some smart trading on the FUT Market.
Once you’ve completed an SBC yourself, take note of those that offer the best rewards and check out their requirements. Look through your club and see if there are any players that would be useful for that puzzle and check their market price as they could be one of a small number of players that can help solve the SBC.
For example, the Advanced SBC group has always featured an 11-league, 1-nation hybrid which can be a pain to complete in the early stages of FUT. If you’ve already completed it, check the market prices of players from unusual leagues but common nations (Argentina, Brazil and Spain are usually the nations people use to complete this SBC) as they will likely be of high value early in the game.
5. Be smart with high-rated and popular players
This is a particular warning for those on the FIFA 20 Web App or Early Access players who will be playing the game before its official launch on September 27th.
If you are fortunate enough to pack yourself a high-rated or popular player during this very early period, avoid selling it straight away. The price may look high and tempting, but if you wait until the game is fully released to everybody, the prices of these players will often rise with more people trying to acquire them.
It won’t be a massive increase, but it could see you pocket a few extra thousand coins just by biding your time. Don’t wait too long though, as prices will eventually begin to fall again. Try to pick the optimum moment to sell those big-name players in the first week or so of the game.
6. Sell and discard consumables
Consumable items such as contracts, chemistry styles and position modifiers could also provide players with a few extra coins.
Obviously, these are items you need to maintain their own club but in the event of having a few extra, don’t just leave them hanging around.
In particular, gold squad fitness cards and desirable position modifiers (such as CF > CAM) can go for a few thousand coins each on the market.
There is also a mass quick sell function coming to FUT for FIFA 20 which means it will be easier to earn coins from discarding the undesirable items. It’s not been confirmed whether the mass quick sell function will also be available for club items such as balls and kits, but discarding these will also be a good source of coins.
