"The idea was to create something that’s visually different from what I’ve done in the past."

Mumbai-based rapper and gully boy DIVINE has released his latest single, ‘One Side’ with a new music video produced by Red Bull Media House.

Shot entirely in one day in an abandoned tobacco factory in Mumbai, it features his Gully Gang crew and Pavan Rap from the dance group Kings Unlimited. “The idea was to create something that’s visually different from what I’ve done in the past while retaining the overall feel of my previous videos,” says DIVINE. “I think the dark end really reflects the theme of the track”, he adds.

The track, 'One Side' comes a year after the widely popular Farak (even Stormzy loved it) and has everything you expect from a DIVINE song - hard-hitting lyrics and throwing shade at those who still don’t believe him. “It’s a track that I dedicate to my fans and the entire hip-hop community in India, we’re all on one side,” he says, “na uss side na iss side, sirf one side!”

His music heroes like Kendrick Lamar, Kojo Funds and Kanye West also influence his storytelling and he picks the top shot of his crew sleeping to be one of the best frames of 'One Side'. Ask him what the most challenging part of the shoot was and he says, “Wearing that suit for hours in the middle of Bombay heat!”
